Chanel’s beautiful product and its beautiful history.
Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick
Chanel is amongst the luxury makeup brands that produce the most-wanted makeup products time and time again. The brand produces luxurious makeup, skincare and fragrances. Having worked at Chanel Beauty, I am aware of the fascinating history that is associated with the fragrances; but as I am a makeup lover, I was warmed when I discovered the history behind the Lipstick collection.
The iconic Rouge Coco lipstick was recently reinvented as Chanel brought out 24 new long-wearing shades that bear the names of Coco Chanel’s lovers, muses and friends. Rouge Coco, the iconic Chanel lipstick, a new formula for more sensoriality and hydration all day long. The new lipstick composition includes:
• A silicone wax delivers a new sensory experience. Softer and more melt-away, gliding on more easily for an immediate sensation of fusion with the lips.
• A new polymer film and silicone microbeads encourage lasting hold and boosted shine.
I was lucky enough to be asked to work at the event for the new Rouge Coco lipstick launch at House of Fraser, Manchester in early 2015. For the event I had to have knowledge about the background of Chanel and the Rouge Coco lipstick. The new range of shades inspired by the close friends of Mademoiselle Chanel, those who simply called her Coco: Arthur, Adrienne, Roussy, Dimitri and more.
ARTHUR Arthur Capel, known as ‘Boy’, held a central place in the history of Gabrielle Chanel. Arthur ‘Boy’ Capel was the only man she ever loved. She left her then-current parter, Balsan, only a note that read “I am leaving with Boy Capel. Forgive me, but I love him” when she followed Capel to Paris. They didn’t marry and after the war, Capal left Chanel for a war widow.
ADRIENNE Adrienne Chanel was Gabrielle’s (Coco) Aunt who was always supportive of her talents in designing and dressmaking. Adrienne was later recruited to model Chanel’s designs and advertise the Chanel branded clothes.
ROUSSY is Misia’s (Queen of Paris and Gabrielle’s best friend through the interwar years) ex-husband, Sert’s, mistress. Misia meets Gabrielle Chanel (1883-1971) who becomes her closest friend during the interwar years. Misia and Sert introduce her to the Parisian arts scene and take Chanel under their wing.
DMITRI (DIMITRI) Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovitch was 30, Gabrielle was 8 years older than him: she fascinated him, he seduced her. The relationship between Gabrielle Chanel and the Grand Duke Dmitri lasted for one year (1921), but their friendship lasted until his death in 1942. Gabrielle Chanel delved with delight into the Russian influence that was expressed through her creations.
