Gestured Florals

WGSN Trend by Graham Krag, 2016

Gestural Florals

Normally any form of print is a no-go for me, yet, Krag‘s trend of gestural florals really appeals to me. The trend originates from the London Print Design Fair (April 2016), where the trend was seen and named hand-rendered. This is typically expressively painted or precisely hand-drawn, the artistry is evident and resembles the fine art genre than textile repeats. I feel like Hannah Watkins’ summary of this trend is something that appeals to my A-level-Art-self, as the artistry is appreciated.

Gestural Florals utilises emotive mark-making and gestural forms using watercolour florals and brushstrokes to create expressive prints. Floral prints are iconic in the summer months. Gestural Florals will be the perennial trend for womenswear SS17. Continue reading

Celine in Vogue

Juergen Teller

Whilst looking through this month’s Vogue, the Celine Summer campaign really caught my eye. I love the block colour contrast between the bright background and the model. The campaign has gone for an effortless, simplistic look. The model looks as if she was cut out and stuck on the bold block background. Photographer Juergen Teller has really captured the message that the collection is trying to portray. Continue reading

Vogue’s Classic Pieces

Whilst browsing through the Vogue’s 100 Years (June) Issue, I came across the The Complete Works feature. This feature focuses on the classic, timeless staples needed that have outlasted all fads and trends. This is such a good idea as it is a guide for those readers who feel a bit lost with their wardrobe. Like me you may feel as though you have too many clothes and nothing to wear. My advice is to follow this post and strip back your wardrobe to the classics. Once you discover your style and are happy with the classics then you can slowly add the current trends into your wardrobe.

Athleisure Trend

If it’s good enough for Chanel, then it’s good enough for anyone.

Recently I had to complete an assignment regarding the active sportswear landscape amongst certain retailers. After completing large amounts of research, it was clear that the ‘athleisure’ trend is here to stay. After discovering Chanel’s AW14 sportswear-inspired collection, there’s no wonder leisurewear has taken on a new meaning and we are increasingly seeing sporty looks in everyday apparel rather than wearing it to participate in a sport. However, it’s not just the catwalk that is influencing our buying behaviour, the social trends of health and wellness amongst women is encouraging investment in apparel for a variety of exercise activities.   Continue reading
